About Our Youth Leagues

Youth League FAQs

What our Members say about Us:

"We wanted to reach out and just express our extreme gratitude for how well organized and supportive this league has been! Our son is fairly new to sports and it shows skill wise so this experience for him is really great. Thank you again, we understand it’s a lot of work and care that goes into the team arrangements."

"Thank you for your continued efforts! It’s so well organised and run! Lewis just loves it!

"Thanks so much Jackie. You've been a tremendous organizer and spirit!"

________________________________________________________
Playing the game is more than just the score, it’s about getting kids active and teaching them new things - that's what we're all about! Participation in a team sport lays the foundation for community, teamwork and collaboration - values that your child will use throughout their lifetime. Your player and their experience with us matters most.

“I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career.  I’ve lost almost 300 games.  Twenty-six times, I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed.  I’ve failed over and over again in my life.  And that is why I succeed” (Michael Jordan).

Here's what you will get through Royal City Ball Hockey:

  • We prioritize the safety and well-being of our players, ensuring a welcoming environment. Our programs are for players of varied skill levels - no child will ever be cut from a team. Every child gets the chance to play in every game.
  • One game per week, at the same location and at consistent times—no travel required. This stability lets you plan your schedule with ease.
  • We believe in the power of teamwork, both on and off the rink. This includes collaboration with parents, staff, and volunteers. We uphold a Code of Conduct for both players and parents, promoting mutual respect for each other and the officials. For us, playing the game is just one part of the experience.
  • The lessons of teamwork, fair play, and sportsmanship extend far beyond the game itself. We’re committed to fostering a positive environment where teams support and respect each other both on and off the rink. Together, we work towards success.
  • Extra Perk: Enjoy the action from above at Jesse’s on-site restaurant! Grab breakfast, lunch, or dinner while watching the game from the comfort of the restaurant.

Learn To Play

This is for kids ages 4 and 5. They learn hockey fundamentals including holding the stick, passing, shooting, stick handling and agility. We start each week with a fun warm-up to get them excited about playing hockey. We finish with a short game. (we highly recommend starting kids at age 4 and not younger for a better experience)

U8
This is for players ages 6 and 7 year olds in the current year that they are playing. This program includes a combination of skill development including passing, shooting, stick handling and an introduction to game rules. We follow Hockey Canada U9 hockey play with 2-minute shift changes. Players will play one reffed game per week by Adult Referees - full rules, less offsides and icing. (3-goal maximum per player per game).

U10, U12, U16 and Senior
Players will play one reffed game per week by Adult Referees - full rules (3-goal maximum per player per game).

GENERAL INFORMATION

You will be contacted 1-week before the start of the season with schedule and league information.

Our house league level of play encourages players to make new friends in a positive team environment. The focus is fair play, equal play time, and fun for all. The emphasis is participation. The emphasis is participation. The program includes a sweater and promotional item (equipment bag or water bottle) that your child keeps.

Youth can indicate ONE player they wish to play with on our registration form (both players must request each other in order to be paired together). The goal of this league is to make new friends. In week two of the season we will be assessing teams and may make some adjustments in order to ensure that the league is fun for all. We reserve the right to move players around to create teams that are as even as possible in skill.
